Lymph fluid moves through the lymphatic system of the body. This fluid (similar to blood), is vital to the health of our bodies with important functions like carrying away waste. The lymphatic system is a circulating system with numerous nodes found across the body.
We offer Manual Superficial Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) for cosmetic interests, general well-being and as way to relax and decrease tension in the body.

For those not familiar with MLD, it is a light pressure massage with smooth, rhythmic repetitions. This light, smooth repetitive massage mimics the natural flow of lymph within our bodies. Most people can benefit from MLD. If the lymphatic system has been blocked or destroyed by cancer cells or surgery, MLD helps to move and drain out waste.
However, MLD is not suitable for those with the following:
Malignant tumours or are undergoing chemotherapy
Inflammation of a vein (thrombosis / phlebitis)
Thyroid conditions
Hard, swollen or painful lymph nodes or glands
Cellulitis / erysipelas
Lymphedema, acute oedema
Major heart problems
Kidney problems
Skin conditions (contagious, infected, open, discharging fluids)
Cuts and abrasions
Recent scar tissue
Bronchitis and influenza
Damaged skin (bruising, sunburn or windburn)
At Sukhalaya, we carefully assess and advise patients on whether MLD is suitable for you, or suggest an alternative treatment.
